Want to sleep the day away

Tue., Nov. 24, 2020 *****

I wanted to sleep in today. No not just sleep in - I wanted to just stay sleeping, maybe for the whole day, dreaming, staying warm, avoiding wakefulness and the world outside.

There is no special reason for this feeling. Oh, sure, Covid sucks and it's raining outside. But I think it's just an inside job. I just wanted to hide today.

Then the phone rings - unknown caller. I HATE unknown callers. There's almost no excuse for that anymore. But I answered it and it turns out to be the Stirling Marathon people calling to say they do warranty the door. Yeah! They will send a new one and send someone to install it, too!

Wait a minute - I have to back up here. The other day Danielle peeked around the sliding kitchen door to say her oven door has just exploded in her hand! The door has been slightly off kilter and never closed correctly (brand new ffing oven by the way, bought in the spring). So she looked up the manual online and removed the door and was going to put it back and straighten it out. She started to put the hooks back into the front of the oven, holding the door with both hands on either side - and it just exploded. Glass everywhere!

Weirdest thing ever. I sent pictures and called Salt Spring Appliance, whom I had bought it thru - but she immediately said, "It's not warrantied by us - but you can try calling the manufacturer." Hmmm.... She gave me the model number and the company's name.

So I did - Stirling Marathon Appliances. Left a message and sent pictures.
And what do you know? THEY warranty their stuff and will be sending a new oven door, plus someone to install it! Good news. But why didn't Salt Spring Appliance know that? Why didn't they call Stirling Marathon on my behalf? I find that very disappointing and will not order thru them next time. What's the point? I like keeping local businesses going with my business, but I can go thru Coast Appliances myself just as easily.

I also googled exploding oven doors and what do you know? It's a THING. It happens everywhere now and with many different brands. I found a class action suit in the States and applied. Apparently there is now a Chinese manufacturer who makes most of the oven doors in this crappy fashion for many companies. The oven doors often explode while being used - the heat causes the explosion. What???? Insane. Anyway, I will fill out the form the lawyers sent and will receive updates as the suit goes forward. This needs to stop. https://www.classaction.org/oven-door-glass-shattering-lawsuits

Anyway, I started the day with that good news. Thank goodness because I was thinking I may have to just buy another stove entirely. Danielle suggested buying an older used model because that never used to happen. Sad state of affairs that older everything is now better than newer models of anything. But that's where we are I suppose.

Right after that phone call, Anderson Appliance Repair called to say they have been booked to come install the new oven door once it arrives. More good news.

By now, I am up. No more avoiding the day by staying in bed. Sigh. So I go get the fur kids from their room and Sadie does a happy dance all over the living room, playing with her newest ball. And the cat starts meowing and looking adorable. I must say - having pets really does make every day better. They make me smile and laugh every single day, even when I am not in the mood to do so. They are actually magical, I believe. SARK wrote the following about dogs and it is all absolutely true. (I have the poster on my bedroom wall.)

A dog’s nose in the palm of your hand can cure almost anything.

Dogs are made of love and fur.

Let your dog take you for a walk.

Dogs are a sure thing.

Some little known dog secrets: dogs have no secrets.

Dogs are like vanilla ice cream: reliably delicious.

Dogs are wise agents directly from heaven.

If you had a tail, wouldn’t you wag it?

There are no bad dogs.

Be your dog’s best friend.

Dog’s like dancing, drive-in movies and dreaming.

God made dogs and spelled his own name backwards!

Dogs make great therapists.

Kiss your dog all the time.

Some dogs are nap dogs.

Dogs invented unconditional love.

Dogs are party animals.

Apply dog logic to life: eat well, be loved, get petted, sleep a lot, dream of a leach-free world.

Live your Dog’s Life!

Wow once I get onto my dog, my mood changes, lifts, I am now smiling. I feel so lucky to have her in m life and in my house and my heart.

Thanks, Sadie. Who cares about the rain? And the Covid? I think I will start doing some Christmas baking today, and Christmas card making. We will have a fire and it will be so cozy in here.

For today, that's enough.
